Nicky

A compelling and inspiring communicator and orator, Nicky’s leadership values were cemented early in her life’s journey. With a family and community who championed her early prowess on the football pitch, firmly and demonstratively supporting her dream to play both professionally and for her country, lessons of dedicating your time, energy and attention to your ‘tribe’ were paramount in how she positioned herself as a leader. In senior roles in schools across the North of Scotland but most importantly as Head Teacher in the serial under-performing Alness Academy, her work to develop her leadership skills, bolstered by her longstanding support of her team to achieve success on the pitch, centred on positioning herself as the learner: listening to the opinions and feedback of those in her school community, whether students, parents, or teachers, to ensure that her goal of fostering hope and devotion to the school and education was realised with the dedicated investment from those individuals. Her success in turning Alness from an under-performing school into one recognised as reaching the upper echelons of the standards system would cause most to boast of their position in the accomplishment of that goal, however, demonstrating the true nature of her style of leadership and indeed her moral compass, Nicky will instead direct attention to the achievement of all students walking through the doors of the school in uniform. Why would that be the central marker? Because it demonstrated that her devotion to listening, engaging and fostering hope in her school community was not just a pipe dream or a falsehood, it had become a reality. For her of course but, more importantly, for the students who had, through that simple action, developed a dedication to their school, and more widely to their education in a way that had not existed before Nicky’s placement. Nicky’s continued development as a leader came through her role as Director of Education for the largest local authority in Scotland where she oversaw 204 schools and strategically managed a budget of £290m to maximise outcomes for the young people in her ward through the spearheading of policy reforms and overseeing the achievement of educational KPIs.

No matter the role or position, Nicky’s leadership style tells a story: one of compassion and dedication that stem from a deeply held conviction that emotional intelligence is paramount. Her leadership is defined by empathy, resilience, and a genuine passion for helping others succeed, making every step toward progress a shared journey.

Workshop talk – “Peoples Champion”

In our winding journey through life, we can all think of leaders who have had a positive impact on our lives and often leave a lasting impression. These are the leaders who not only guide us but also inspire us to be better versions of ourselves.

I have been fortunate to have had many who have championed me over the years; here are some of their key characteristics:

🐦‍🔥Compassionate, understanding that empathy is the key to relationships

🐦‍🔥Good listeners, I mean really listen! and not just hear words

🌈Positive affirmation, providing the encouragement we need to thrive

🌈Moral compass, they stand firm in their values. Showing integrity and authenticity

🌟Lifelong learners, always seeking knowledge and improvement

But a consideration for us in this workshop is who will we champion? And how? What are the unique characteristics that you bring to your relationships?

We’re Not in Kansas Anymore: Making Confident Decisions in Turbulent Times

In an ever-changing business landscape, uncertainty is inevitable—but it doesn’t have to paralyze progress. This workshop explores how you can navigate turbulence with confidence by deeply understanding your business, engaging with stakeholders, and leveraging your unique strengths. Through open and honest reflection on where we stand today, we can uncover opportunities to increase both productivity and profitability. Join us to discover how clarity and confidence can transform uncertainty into strategic advantage

Zara Grant

At 16, I found myself homeless, with no clear path forward. Life had thrown challenges at me that most people couldn’t imagine. But instead of letting my circumstances define me, I chose to fight. I worked tirelessly, pushing past every obstacle. At 19 I took a leap of faith and moved to the other side of the world.

It wasn’t easy. There were moments of doubt, moments where I wondered if I had made the right choice. But I kept going. I learned to pivot, to adapt, to seize opportunities where others saw limitations. Over the years, with just £50 in my pocket to start, I built not one, but three businesses from the ground up—and even started a charity to give back.

My journey isn’t just about success—it’s about resilience, about proving that no matter where you start, you can rewrite your story. Now, I’m dedicated to helping others break through their own barriers and achieve the impossible

Oyin Adekola – owner of Keeping it Real with Oyin

I've been working on an outline for my talk, and expect that the theme will be around self awareness and the journey rather than a destination in relation to career and leadership. I don't plan to do an interactive element, but if I come up with an idea or you can suggest something that might suit, let's talk about it.

Don't miss this opportunity to learn, connect, and grow as a leader in today's ever-evolving business landscape!
